Big Name Artists

This is my own personal list of singers and songwriters I enjoy who have passed from indie to "famous" status by attaining some measure of commercial success, signing with a major recording label, or otherwise becoming well-known in the music industry.

It's sad but mostly true that along with "success" comes the inevitable gulf between artist and fan. This is not necessarily the fault of the artist, but the necessity of circumstance; if Joan Jett appeared at your local coffee house, it would be overrun! A few artists manage to maintain that link, but it is ever so tenuous.
